Auckland based indie-pop trio, LA Women have shared their latest single, ‘Falling In Love’.
While perceived on the surface as an intimate ballad of adoration, upon reading between the lines ‘Falling in Love’ is an observation of society’s infatuation with the high life hype. “
Why you listen to karma? Why you dress in designer? Girl you’re playing with fire,” frontman Jake questions his subjects motives before the chorus’ ascending refrain engulfs listeners under the irresistible spell that is desire forstatus. On ‘Falling In Love’, LA Women search for real connection within the trap of social clout chasing.
Written over a year ago, ‘Falling In Love’s creation was a turning point for LA Women’s evolution. During a trip to Auckland from his Tauranga hometown, bass player Jesse Brown built the bones of ‘Falling in Love’ in a beat making studio session with Auckland based Sable Valley producer Montell2099. Reading the outcome of the destined session as a sure sign of where he was supposed to be, Jesse madethe permanent move to Auckland city to be united with his band brothers Zac Emerson and Jake just two weeks later. Building on the pulsating production, the band went on to layer the existing electronic elements with an autotune sweetened bridge and live instrumental textures, including throbbing heartbeat drums and lustrous chords.
‘Falling In Love’ follows the three-pieces recent catalogue of soul, R&B and funk tinted indie releases, June’s ‘Love Me’, and 2019’s ‘Novocaine’ and ‘Under Pressure’, as the band work towards releasing their next EP. Building a boys-next-door allure after a series of unconventional house party style backyard/garage shows in secret locations around Auckland and Dunedin, LA Women are on the road to stealing hearts from New Zealand to the rest of the world.“We’ve played ‘Falling In Love’ at live shows before, and had so many fans coming up to us asking about it and when it’s coming out” Jake says of the anticipation surrounding the song. “Usually it’s on our own terms how and when we release songs, but this one was definitely influenced by the fan feedback which is cool.”
